  Former Bethelites, please settle this argument

  i was recently talking to a friend that's a former jw, and she argued that there are just as many women that live at bethel as there are men.

  admittedly, we're both slightly ignorant on the subject, since neither of us have actually lived at or even visited bethel.

  i've made the assumption that there are significantly more men than women at bethel, am i correct?.

  There are more men at bethel than women! (at least as of 96 when I left)

  Back then the big way for women to get into bethel was to work as commuters (hold a job and pioneer while commuting to bethel as a voulunteer.)

  On # 1 I have heard of 'brother' who gave up their military retirements to get baptized. Ironically I thought it dumb even as a lad to give up a pension when you are just a couple of years from retiring/collecting it.

  a few months ago, one of my best friends from uni times told me that his girlfriend of something like 20 years was leaving him.

  she can't live with a non-believer...she wants to be a baptised jw.. i couldn't believe this crap is happening again.

  turns out she grew up in a jw family, but parents separated when she was about 8 years or so.

  I was going to make a similar post I just found out a guy I grew up with and who for most of his adult life was either DF'd or just plain not going has returned to the hall and is giving talks.

  This guy was not even able to attend his own fathers funneral but now he is all in on jahs earthly chariot.

  What we were talking about was other friends of ours who went thru and endured some severe BULLSHIT at bethel. I'm talking damn near andy dufraine shawshank redemption BS where the only difference was the rape was mental and not physical. We recounted one pal of ours who was being screwed over so tough one day he went into a tear streaming rage while working.

  Let me paint the picture for you a gigantic 6 foot 5 dude with tears streaming down his face, tossing 50 lbs bundles around like empty tissue rolls.

  They actually sought us out to come and calm our friend down. This dude was screwed over more times than I can recount. Last time I talked with him he was an elder and I was explaining how I no longer attend.

  looking back I foolishly thought considering the nature of what we went thru, that we had formed a bound that transcended the JW's. I thought this cat and others in our crew would always be there for each other no matter what!

  Damn was I wrong.

  I am not venting or ranting, not even mad just observing and putting into words one of the flaws of JW's...Brotherhood.

  Or more specifically the lack of true brotherhood! One definition of brotherhood is: the belief that all people should act with warmth and equality toward one another, regardless of differences in race, creed, nationality, etc.

  I see a lot of post where people are in a 'fade' trying to keep their friends, family and other reasons. I wish you all success but please be forewarned that the very nature of the JW beast is to cast friends and loved ones aside as soon as they no longer live up to expectations.

  i went to see it today - by myself (mr bee is on a golf junket).

  i was glad that that i was by myself because i cried so much at the end, i wouldn't have wanted to be with anyone who wasn't crying - and that would not have been mr bee!.

  les miserables the current film is adapted from what is considered one of the half-dozen greatest novels of the past 150 years and one of the longest novels ever written.

  Question Directed at Religious People

  i'm currently dealing with some very religious jw family members and this has led to several "debates" (i hate to use the term debate, since it's more of a one-sided argument where they do nothing but reference watchtower publications, but whatever).. gotta be careful in what i'm about to ask, since there's been quite a bit of turmoil on here whenever there is a religion vs. science sort of discussion.

  i've searched on past threads as this topic has come up but haven't received any real answers one way or another.

  just lots of fighting.
